The Coated VICRYL™ Plus Antibacterial Suture, Violet Braided, Size 3-0, 18" Length, is a synthetic, absorbable suture composed of polyglactin 910. It is coated with a mixture of polyglactin 370 and calcium stearate to improve handling, along with triclosan, an antibacterial agent that inhibits colonization of the suture by bacteria commonly associated with surgical site infections.

This suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and ligation, excluding applications involving cardiovascular or neurological tissues. It is frequently used in gynecologic, gastrointestinal, urologic, and subcuticular closures. The braided construction ensures consistent knot security, while the antibacterial coating supports infection control strategies in both clean and contaminated wounds.

Tensile strength retention is approximately 75% at two weeks and 50% at three weeks. The suture is absorbed completely through hydrolysis within 56 to 70 days. This absorption profile provides reliable wound support during the critical initial healing phase, with minimal residual suture mass over time.
